WAIKOLOA — This Wednesday, a grand fireworks finale will cap off the ‘Family Fourth’ celebration at Waikoloa Beach Resort.
Free, all-day activities will precede it, including nonstop entertainment, activities and treats for all ages between 11 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. at Kings’ Shops, Queens’ MarketPlace and Waikoloa Bowl.
Kings’ Shops
For the 27th year, Kings’ Shops will host the annual Great Waikoloa Rubber Duckie Race. Activities at the shopping center will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a watermelon eating contest at A-Bay’s Waikoloa Bar &Grill, as well as food booths, children’s entertainment, live music on the stage and special promotions.
Coinciding with this year’s circus theme, H.I.C.C.U.P. Circus will perform at 12:30 p.m. Airbrush tattoos, face painting and carnival games will be offered throughout the afternoon.
At 1 p.m., The Original Big Island Shave Ice Co. will host a shave ice eating contest, with a duck waddling and duck calling contest next at 2 p.m.
The memorable Great Waikoloa Rubber Duckie race will start at 3 p.m. on Kings’ Lake. Adoption certificates are available until 3 p.m. this Wednesday with a chance to win over $31,000 in prizes. Individual duckie adoptions are $5 each and Quack Packs are $25 each, including five adoption certificates and one event t-shirt, while supplies last. This year participants can join the “Hall of Fame” with a $100 donation and get 40 adoptions and a t-shirt.
The race will be followed by a special performance by Sudden Rush at 3:30 p.m. on the stage. Kings’ Shops festivities will conclude with an awards ceremony at 5 p.m. on the Kings’ Shops stage.
Queens’ MarketPlace
Within walking distance, Queens’ MarketPlace will be ideal for families, with popcorn, cotton candy, balloon sculpting, face painting, carnival games and Kohala Mountain Express Keiki Train rides.
Live performances will begin at 12-noon with Johnny Shot Band, followed by Tomi Isobe Blues Band at 2 p.m., Lorenzo’s Army at 3 p.m., Free n Easy at 4 p.m. and Full Circle at 8:15 p.m.
Waikoloa Bowl
Waikoloa Bowl will open at 4:45 p.m. with live entertainment beginning at 5 p.m. by Tomi Isobe Band Friends, followed by LT Smooth at 6:15 p.m. The fireworks extravaganza will light up the sky at 8 p.m.
Alcohol, smoking, coolers of any kind, drones, skates, skateboards, bikes, musical instruments, fireworks, umbrellas, tents, weapons of any kind, drugs or drug paraphernalia, and animals — except for service dogs — are prohibited in Waikoloa Bowl.
